Hull FC legend and honorary Club President Johnny Whiteley MBE pens an exclusive personal note for our HullFC150 website. Johnny is one of the club’s greatest servants having played 417 games, scoring 156 tries, becoming captain, coach and representing Great Britain. In 2009, he was given the Freedom of the City.

It is a true privilege to have the opportunity to write to Season Pass holders ahead of the 2015 season on behalf of a club that means so much to me.

I am very fortunate to have been involved with Hull FC for a large part of their existence and have many fond memories. As a local boy, brought up around the old Boulevard ground, working with many teammates, supporters and friends, the club becomes part of your life. It has a very special place in our hearts and will continue to do so for the next 50 years.

As I grew up all I ever wanted to do was to play for Hull FC and wear the Black and White shirt. It was everybody’s dream and ambition – nothing else, just that Black and White shirt.

Rugby league was folklore. That is what makes the club so special, the fans, or as they have become known in modern day terms – the faithful.

Black and White is in your blood, through the good times and the bad. It still amazes me now how many people turn out every week, home and away, to watch the team and how many shirts you see walking down the streets. It makes me just as proud to be associated with those people as a supporter, as it does any link to being a former player or coach.

It was the same for my heroes. The great Charlie Booth, Jack Harrison, and my hero, Freddie Miller. Wonderful people, for a wonderful club, supported by wonderful fans. The best fans.

For us, it is more than just a game of rugby. It is what the game is about, what the shirt is about and what the club is about. It is a passion, a desire, a feeling of being part of something very special. It is our club.

As we enter 2015, the club have some fantastic plans to mark the 150th anniversary which I think will be loved by pass holders young and old and I’m looking forward to be being part of the celebrations and commemorations, as I am sure you are too.

Season pass holders play a pivotal role in what the club can achieve on and off the field. They are the lifeblood of the club and you really can make a difference next season. Don’t leave the club now when we need you the most as we celebrate our rich history.

If ever there was a year to show your allegiance to the club, whether you are a new fan, returning fan or the most passionate of season pass holders, then this is it.

I look forward to seeing you at the KC Stadium next year for a magical season and the chance to feel part of a very special club.

Yours Faithfully,

Johnny Whiteley
